I was on Katies moms blog, she does a introduction of a different ancestor each week and calls it Friday Forever Family. I am going to borrow her idea, and since to day is Friday, I am going to introduce you to my Great Great Grandmother Karen Jacobsen Hansen. She was born 3 May 1825 in Bjergso, Hollak, Odense, Denmark.
We have no idea how she got to Utah, but know she was in Ephriam, Utah by 9 Oct 1857, which means she came across the plains with one of the pioneer companies. We don't know if she came with parents or brothers and sisters, or what her story is about joining the church. We do know that was in Ephraim just a matter of weeks when she met and married Anders Hansen, who was widowed, with a 10 yr old son Hans, and 16 years older than she was.
We found out that she was well educated by Danish standards, attending school until she was 15 years old. She and Anders are one of the few ancestors I can follow on all of the censes rolls. She never learned to speak , read or write English, and on the 1870 censes, it states that there were 4 children born, and only 2 alive. Our family geneology did not show the other 2 children. I was so pleased when the other 2 boys showed up using New Family search.
She died 3 Oct 1910, 26 years after the death of Anders. Her two sons that grew to maturity were James, and Andrew. (More about James another week)
We have an awsome heritage, with some very interesting characters. I want to introduce them to you.
