Friday Forever Family

I was on Katies moms blog, she does a introduction of a different ancestor each week and calls it Friday Forever Family. I am going to borrow her idea, and since to day is Friday, I am going to introduce you to my Great Great Grandmother Karen Jacobsen Hansen.
She was born 3 May 1825 in Bjergso, Hollak, Odense, Denmark.
We have no idea how she got to Utah, but know she was in Ephriam, Utah by 9 Oct 1857, which means she came across the plains with one of the pioneer companies. We don't know if she came with parents or brothers and sisters, or what her story is about joining the church. We do know that was in Ephraim just a matter of weeks when she met and married Anders Hansen, who was widowed, with a 10 yr old son Hans, and 16 years older than she was.
We found out that she was well educated by Danish standards, attending school until she was 15 years old. She and Anders are one of the few ancestors I can follow on all of the censes rolls. She never learned to speak , read or write English, and on the 1870 censes, it states that there were 4 children born, and only 2 alive. Our family geneology did not show the other 2 children. I was so pleased when the other 2 boys showed up using New Family search.
She died 3 Oct 1910, 26 years after the death of Anders. Her two sons that grew to maturity were James, and Andrew. (More about James another week)
We have an awsome heritage, with some very interesting characters. I want to introduce them to you.

Valentines Day Anderson Style

Oops on the Brad picture, and I can't figure out how to get it off and try again. Well, this is progress though. I did get the pictures in the same post (Thanks Sam for the lesson) I actually turned one of them. Sorry Brad it wasn't yours.
Anyway, Valentines Day is Andys holiday, He likes picking out appropiote cards for each of his chldren, and then something from the Hallmark store to go with it. Usually the Hallmark special of that year. (To bad it was the Kissing Bears 2 yrs. in a row.) This year was no exception. The cute fuzzy animals sing obnoxious songs, and Wesleys buzzer is also noisy. Andy will learn to read the entire cards next year. (A comment about washing edible undies, is not something you expect to find on a Hallmark Card.) We didn't get get a picture of Emily's Bull or Wes and the buzzer, after all they live here.
Nora and Sara brought over beautiful frosted sugar cookies with sprinkles. Grandma and Nora like the same amount of frosting on the cookies.....lots! Thanks, they were tasty.
I fixed dinner (surprise), and thought I would make it Valentine like, by eating by candlelight.
Andy couldn't see what he was eating.....so we turned on the lights.
Happy Valentines Day
( I can find spell check, just can't figure out how to use it. Next lesson when you come over Sam)

Nora Sews

Nora made her first dress. It is that pre-smocked fabric that is sold by the inch. Nora ran the foot pedal on the sewing machine. She did such a good job. She went slow, and stopped everytime Grandma said stop. This style fabric will look better on Sara when she gets bigger. Nora picked out the fabric. It had to have purple! Her favorite color.

Honoring Pres. Hinkley

I realized that I don't just post cute pictures of my grandkids here. I can also ramble on about stuff.
A friend of mine has decided to make 97 quilts this year in honor of Pres. Hinkleys life. I thought it was a great idea. But for me 97 quilts is not realistic. I will however have 3 done this month by the time I finished teaching a humantarian quilting class. So I thought about some of the areas President Hinkley focused on....Humanitarian, Perpetual Education Fund, and Temples, and lots of other stuff.
I could do 97 Humanitarian Kits, Hygine, School, Newborn, Quilts, or contribute $97 to the Perpetual Education Fund, or do 97 ordinances in the temple. I am thinking that it will be a combination of all of the above. It is something I am pondering. Just thought I would share.

Nora and Sara brought over "Princess Pasta" for dinner one night. They were the only ones that ate it!!
Nora told grandpa that he couldn't have any.....there wasn't a prince in the package.

Sara is now in a big girl bed. So grandma made her a big girl flannel quilt!! She looks so little sitting on it. I hope it keeps her warm in this really cold weather we are having.

Nora let me know that I couldn't put lace on an apron I was making for her Dora doll
"Don't you know grandma, aprons don't have lace, my daddys doesn't" makes sense to me!
